How to Get from Budapest Airport to Szeged

Budapest Liszt Ferenc Airport (BUD) is the main arrival point for visitors. Szeged is approximately 170 km south-east of Budapest — plan for around 1.5 to 2.5 hours of travel time depending on your chosen transport.

From Budapest Airport to Ferihegy Train Station
  • Take bus 200E from Terminal 2 to Ferihegy Train Station.
  • Tickets: ~450 HUF — buy at a BKK vending machine or via the BudapestGO app.
  • Duration: ~20 minutes.
  • Buses run every 10–20 minutes during the day.

Train from Ferihegy Station to Szeged
  • Direct InterCity (IC) trains run to Szeged from Ferihegy Train Station.
  • Duration: ~2 hours 10 minutes (delays are possible).
  • Seat reservation required.
  • Tickets from 3,900 HUF (~€10). Book here (account setup required).
  • Trains run hourly during the day.
Pro tip: If you are staying in Budapest downtown first, you can also take this train from Budapest-Nyugati station directly to Szeged.

3. By Rideshare / Carpool (Motar)

Motar is Hungary's most popular carpool platform (known as Oszkár in Hungarian). This is the most flexible and often fastest option, especially when departing directly from the airport.

  • Search for rides from Liszt Ferenc Repülőtér or central Budapest to Szeged.
  • Duration: ~1 hour 40 minutes from the airport.
  • Prices start from 5,000 HUF (~€13–15).
